Autumn Season Makeup... How to Wear Brown Eyeshadow ala Kate Moss

One of the trends in makeup for this fall/winter season is nude/brown/pink eyeshadow.  This is what I call the look of tired eyes.  I know, it sounds weird, because why would you use a makeup that makes your eyes looking tired? Actually, I was thinking the same way, but recently I decided to give it a try, did some research on how to do it right and discovered that this look IS wearable and can be interesting, because it is different.  Do you remember September issue of French Vogue with Kate Moss?  This is what I am talking about.  This can work if you know what works for your face, which requires some experimenting.  I did some research on how to make it work, spent some time practicing, and this is what I learned, this is what I have to do if I want to pull off this kind of look:
  • Skin must be perfectly prepared and flawless, because "tired" eyes look interesting and dreamy only when your skin is fresh and beautiful
  • This look worked for me only when I made my brows very defined and strong.  It is all about balance, and strong brows compensated for less pronounced eye makeup
  • I found that brown eyeshadow all over the eyelid worked for me only when I first draw the line with my Dolce & Gabbana Nude Eye Pencil  close to the lash line on the top and the bottom of the eyelid, including waterline, and only then use my brown eyeshadow, closer to the crease of the eyelid.  Also, my gaze looked much more alive and fresh when I added a little bit of pink eyeshadow (blush also can be used) on the socket line of the eye.
  • Use a smaller eyeshadow brush to put some brown eyeshadow  under the lower eyelid, similar to how Pat McGrath was showing in this tutorial
Well, I never was able to pull off this look before, I tried.  Now, with some tips and tricks from makeup artists, trial and error approach, I found the way to make it work.  I also must add that somehow this type of makeup enhances the color of my blue eyes.  It is certainly very different look, not something that I got used to and not your traditional "pretty made up eyes" look,  but I like it BECAUSE it is different.  This is the look to have when I do not want to look too "made-up," when I want to look like I did not try too hard.  Some makeup artists even suggest going without mascara, but I was not able to pull it off.... yet.  I am sure some people can.  It is definitely the makeup to be worn by very self confident person, who not necessarily wants to look "pretty" but instead, different and mysterious.

Below is the tutorial from makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, who shows here how she created Kate Moss look for the September issue of French Vogue.  Thanks to makeup artist Lisa Eldridge,  who recorded this youtube video by inviting Charlotte Tilbury as a guest artist into her makeup studio. I cannot wait to see you next Thursday, September 27!

Long time ago (last spring) I shared with you one of my favorite ways to tie the long rectangular scarf. You can see it HERE

With fall season coming soon, I thought it would be nice to revisit this topic, especially with very cute short film on this subject from  Mode Walk .  It only helps that this tutorial was shot in Paris.

Yayoi Kusama... Princess of the Polka Dots

Louis Vuitton introduced the launch of its collaboration with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. This video show the artist and her work dedicated to polka dots, entirely. After watching this video I was amazed of her creativity and the way she makes such an ordinary thing as a polka dots so interesting and so different in any of her art installation. Yayoi Kusama sees her life as "a dot lost among millions of other dots." The collaboration with Louis Vuitton resulted in an upcoming collection that is called "Dots Infinity."

Valentino, Lace Espadrillas and How They Make It

If you read my blog, you know how much I like "making of.." videos.  These videos show that all beautiful things that I admire are made by real people, by hand and not by some robot at the factory.  In this Valentino video of making lace flats, Espadrillas, they even show how a protective toe cap crocheted by a women and then sewed on to the shoe by hand.  I never get tired of watching the process of making things and then see the beautiful result of this effort. Here is the journey form the piece of raw material to the box and wrapping tissue paper.

Leather Forever ... Hermes

Hermes produced this video to celebrate "Leather Forever" show that runs until May 27 in London.  The exhibition marks the French luxury goods maker's 175th anniversary.

Did you know that EACH Hermes bag that is made, created by ONE craftsman, from start to finish, who signs their name on each bag they create in an unseen place inside the bag?  I was amazed when I learned that.  One of the bags that is shown in this video in apple green color is so-o beautiful.  Maybe, some day...

Valentino... Creation of a lace dress

I was always fascinated by the process of how beautiful items are created.  This is why I love watching "making of..." videos.  The magic of converting a piece of fabric or a block of a raw material into something beautiful, is like watching when the piece of art being born in front of your own eyes.  Recently I saw video  The Secret of the Little Black Jacket    by Chanel and I absolutely loved it.  I have to note that music for that video are no less exceptional that video of the creative process or the Little Black jacket itself.

I thought it would be interesting  to see here The Valentino video.  They show how they make their lace dress.  I was so inspired by this video that even made   Detachable White Lace Collar  and shared with you how I did it so you can do the same if interested.  I hope you enjoy this short video showing Valentino craftsmanship as much as I did.

Make up tutorial... The wedding makeup

I found an interesting YouTube  video with Emily of  Cupcakes and Cashmere blog  where Tom Pecheux, creative make up director with Estee Lauder shared some tips and trick about the wedding make up.  What I found especially useful was watching him apply powder blush on Emily's face.  Make up professionals say that they can tell the difference between good make up and the bad one by looking at how well it was blended.  So his technique gives you beautiful blend between the blush and the skin, no matter how intense the color of the blush is.  To achieve this, he just tapped his brush with blush on the cheek.  You have to see it.  I tried it with my  Chanel blush   and it worked wonders!  Tell me if you tried this technique.

The Earth Day 2012... Responsible and Beautiful

This year the Earth Day will be celebrated for the 42nd time worldwide on April 22.  The message of this campaign is  simple -  Let's make our Earth more Beautiful.  I like this message and think it is better to do something about responsible production of leather goods than nothing.  Please look at my project that supports the idea of taking responsibility for the beautiful planet.  I believe that it is no longer enough to produce good-looking items, we must also be conscious of the impact our actions carry with respect to the environment and labor laws.  Hope you will enjoy this short movie I named Responsible and Beautiful. Please visit my project on kickstarter.com   here   and maybe even support us in this journey.  Thank you.

The Odyssey of Cartier

First time I saw this short Cartier film about a month ago. Today I saw it again and decided to share it with you. It is absolutely beautiful to me. Reportedly this movie is 3min 30 sec long, it cost several millions of euros and took 2 years to complete.
